WELCOME TO TURNER high SCHOOL

Turner High School, founded in 1916, is located in southern Wyandotte County within the city of Kansas City, Kansas. With approximately 1,100 students in grades 9-12, Turner High School competes in the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Class 5A and are know state-wide as the Turner Golden Bears. Turner High School offers many academic and athletic co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for student involvement.

Vision

Utilizing community and family strengths and a highly qualified staff, we will implement a rigorous curriculum which includes technological competencies, critical thinking, cultural awareness, and the acceptance of others while using instructional strategies that promote creativity and collaboration. 

We believe all students should:

  • Understand education and learning are life-long processes.

DR. BILL WEBER, principal

Dr. Bill Weber has been serving the Turner community since 2016. Prior to being the Turner High School Principal, he was the Turner Middle School Principal for nine years, and he has spent over twenty-five years in education. During those years, Dr. Weber has held teaching, coaching and administrative positions both at the middle and high school levels. He has earned degrees from Kansas State University, University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Baker University. He is proud to be a Turner Bear!

steve st. louis, Athletic Director

Steve St. Louis is the Athletic Director at Turner High School. Before coming to Turner, he was a Director of Special Education in North Kansas City and a building principal for 15 years prior to that. He is a University of Missouri-Columbia grad with a degree in Special Education. He earned his Master's and Ed Specialist degrees in Educational Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Kasey Sanders, Assistant Principal

Kasey Sanders is an Assistant Principal at Turner High School. After graduating from Kansas State University, she found a passion for teaching students with special needs. Most recently, she held a role as Special Education Coordinator. When asked what made her interested in the Turner High School Assistant Principal role, Sanders shared that she felt the core values and beliefs of the district aligned with her own. She believes that every student should have access to a high quality education, and she saw how the community pride and dedicated staff lay the foundations for high expectations and student achievement.

John Oshel, ASSISTANT principal

Mr. Oshel has worked in the district since 2011, first as a math teacher at Journey School of Choice and then as an instructional coach at Turner High School and Turner Middle School. He was an Assistant Principal at Turner Middle School before his current role at Turner High School. 

He received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Building Leadership, all from Pittsburg State University.
