Metro Classic Basketball Tournament

Tournament Overview

Date: December 9 - 12, 2025

Location: Turner High School, 2211 S. 55th Street Kansas City, KS 66106

Please note that games will not go to overtime. The only exception is the Championship game on the girls’ side.

Turner High School looks forward to hosing Bonner Springs High School, Washington High School, Wyandotte High School, FL Schlagle High School, Sumner Academy, and Kipp Academy.

Gate

Gate will be $7 for adults and $5 for students; cash and GoFan ($1 convenience fee) will be accepted.

Parking

All fan parking will be at the front of the building and guests will come in the main entrance at Turner High School.

Security

Turner utilizes the Open Gate system for fans at the entrance, does not allow outside food/drinks, and is a weapon and drug-free campus. KCKPD and school security will be present throughout the tournament. Fans who fail to positively represent their school will lose their opportunity to attend the tournament.

Boys Tournament Placing Information

Placing will be determined based on total wins. Should two teams have the same number of wins, tie-breakers will be as follows:

• Head to head
• Points conceded

The first place team will be recognized following the 5:00 games on Friday prior to the Cheer Showcase and will be presented with the traveling championship trophy.

GIrls Tournament Seeding Information

12/9 and 12/10 Matchups

Given the number of teams and play nights, the first two games will be decided by random draw. The draw will be live-streamed the week before as part of the social media campaign for the tournament and will be facilitated by THS media students. Matchups for 12/9 and 12/10 will be distributed to ADs immediately following the draw.

12/12 Matchups

Final matchups will be based on performance from the first two nights of play and will be distributed to ADs the evening of 9/10. Teams will be seeded based on wins with tie-breaking criteria first being head-to-head and second being points conceded. The first place team will be recognized following the championship game and presented with the traveling trophy.

Metro classic Player of the Tournament

The Player of the Tournament is an athlete who exemplifies skill and competitiveness on the court. Nominations will be capped at two players per team and should be submitted by the coach on 12/11 through the form provided by Turner’s AD. Voting will take place on 12/12. The Player of the Tournament will be honored following the championship game and will be awarded a medal in recognition.

metro classic Champion of Character

The Champion of Character for the tournament is an athlete who exemplifies sportsmanship, respect, and leadership as a positive representative of his school. Coaches will nominate players from opponents’ teams through the form provided by Turner’s AD on 12/10 and voting will take place on 12/12. The Champion of Character will be honored following the championship game and will be awarded a medal in recognition.

KSHSAA Guidelines

All KSHSAA requirements will be followed. 

Performance Guidelines

Each team will be given five minutes which includes taking the floor, performing, and exiting the floor. Teams do not need to utilize the entire time but will be penalized for going over.

Teams will perform in the main gym facing the home stands.

Teams will perform alphabetically by school name.

Rating Criteria

Per KSHSAA guidelines, teams will be evaluated by judges based on their performance alone and not in comparison to other teams. The rubric will mirror that of the KSHSAA Game Day Spirit rubric, judging material, synchronization, spacing, technique, and overall impression. Additional details will be sent separately. Teams receiving 1 ratings will be recognized during halftime of the 7:00 game the night of their showcase.
