THS Building Trades Class Completes "Welcome to Turner" Sign Renovation

The class undertook the project as a community service opportunity.

If you've passed by 55th Street and County Line Road in the last month, you have likely noticed that the "Welcome to Turner" sign has a new look.

As a community service project this year, our Building Trades students, under the direction of Mr. Hughes, built a new sign that kept the same message as the original one but was a more stable, updated structure.

Over the course of several class periods, the students built and stained the new wooden frame. Then, in May the students went to the site and over two days took down the original sign and installed the new one.

Thank you to Mr. Hughes and his students - without them, this project would not be possible!

And thank you to Haren Companies for donating the sign. They were the contractor for the new KCKFD fire station and wanted to donate something to the community.

The mother of the student who make the original sign as an Eagle Scout project, Brian Ingram, stopped by as Mr. Hughes and his students were installing the new sign and said she was happy to see it being updated!

In addition spending time on this project, the Building Trades class also finished another house in the Turner community this spring. It is located in the cul-de-sac where the most recent homes have been developed. The house went on the market this summer.
