Summer Message to Turner Community

From Dr. Jason Dandoy, Superintendent of Schools, and Theresa Rangel, Board of Education President.

The below message from Dr. Jason Dandoy, Superintendent of Schools, and Theresa Rangel, Board of Education President, was published in the summer edition of our Turner Today magazine:

We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and were able to enjoy time with family and friends. We are excited for our students to join us this fall and look forward to seeing the community during Back-to-School Bash, a back-to-school event, or an open house in the coming weeks.

For 2025-2026, we are expanding on last year’s theme and are continuing to push expectations of all Turner stakeholders. Our theme for this year is “Raise the Bar… Higher”.

During the past year, we saw significant growth and celebrations with our students. We called on ourselves, our community, and our students to increase expectations, and we want to push our achievement again during the 2025-2026 school year.

Our students deserve the best education available, and in return, benefit us all by making Turner an amazing place to be proud of for many years to come.

To support our future work together, this summer, a large group of community members, staff, parents, and students met to write our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, including an exciting new Mission and Vision for our district.

Although we make annual updates, this session allowed us to form five year goals based on our current data and needs. Our full plan document can always be found on the district website, along with quarterly video updates which are a quick way to stay connected about activities taking place across our district.

In this plan, you’ll notice several new initiatives and areas of improvement. These topics range from Capital Outlay (building and infrastructure) goals to academic rigor, and student attendance.

On the student attendance topic - ensuring that students are at school on-time, every day, is an essential part of the process. Students who are not in school are missing valuable instruction and social interaction. We expect that all healthy students are in class every day and we want to help support our families as they work with us to ensure kids are in class.

If you’re a parent of a Turner student and would like to talk more about how to support student attendance, our teachers and school principals are always willing to have these conversations.

As we welcome students back in early August, please be mindful of students walking to/from school and bus stops. Our young people are this community’s biggest asset, and we all carry the responsibility of keeping them safe. Also, remember that passing a stopped school bus with a stop-arm extended is illegal and puts kids at extreme risk. Please use caution while driving and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

We look forward to a great school year and are excited to “Raise the Bar… Higher” in our community. Thank you for supporting your local schools and students!
