From Dr. Jason Dandoy, Superintendent of Schools, and Theresa Tillery, Board of Education President.
The below message from Dr. Jason Dandoy, Superintendent of Schools, and Theresa Tillery, Board of Education President, was published in our back to school Turner Today magazine:
Turner Community,
As summer comes to a close, we are looking forward to welcoming our students back for another great school year in Turner USD 202! We look forward to seeing the community at Back to School Bash on August 1st or at another back-to-school event in the coming weeks.
This year, our theme is "Every Student, Every Day." We appreciate that each individual student involved with our schools brings unique skills, academic needs, personalities, and goals. Our staff members are highly committed to identifying the best way to serve each child and are working tirelessly to ensure that our students receive the school experience that they deserve.
While we focus on every student, every day, our district also invested time this summer planning for system-wide change and improvement. In June, a collaborative group gathered to review and summarize our achievements from the previous year, mapping out actionable steps that will guide us through the upcoming 2023 - 2024 academic year. We are currently in the fourth year of our Strategic Plan, and you can find the full document on our district website. To keep you informed in a convenient and accessible way, we will be sharing quarterly video updates to showcase our ongoing initiatives.
As Turner students return to school, they’ll find improvements to our school facilities along with new staff members who are looking forward to meeting them this August. We are also excited to re-open the Turner Aquatics Center (TAC) with brand-new finishes and leadership. Ms. Sofia Gambrell has joined us as the new Aquatics Coordinator. Ms. Gambrell is a Turner graduate and spent time working at the TAC earlier in her career. She brings experience and passion to the role, and we are thrilled that she is returning to our district.
As we near the upcoming school year, we want to remind everyone to exercise caution when it comes to student safety. Please be mindful of students walking to and from school as well as bus stops in the coming weeks. As a community, let's prioritize the well-being of our children and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure their protection. Please note that passing a stopped school bus with a stop-arm extended is illegal and puts students at extreme risk.
We look forward to a great school year and appreciate the opportunity to serve the unique needs of every student, every day. Thank you for your continued support of your local schools and the remarkable students we serve.
